Geek Fail: I’ve Never Seen The “Alien” Movies

It occurred to me the other day while writing up this image for Fashionably Geek that I’ve never seen any of the movies in the Alien franchise. Not a single one. Yes, I get the references because you’d have to be living in a cave to not have picked up on it all, but I’ve never seen the movies. And you know what? I might still be too chicken to watch them on DVD. In my living room. In broad daylight.

When the movie first came out in 1979 I was only 9-years-old. That’s way too young to see such a scary movie, but I heard the commercials and they freaked me the heck out. I had nightmares without even seeing the movie. It was the music with this weird, siren-like sound effect that got me every time.

Hold on a sec. I need to turn on more lights.

Over the years I’ve learned a lot about what to do and what not to do when presented with alien baddies even though I’ve not seen this particular series. I even wrote up a list 5 Tips For Surviving an Alien Encounter that includes one that Ellen Ripley could use – Wear Pants. I’m not sure I’m ready for the movie, but if this happens in the real world I’m definitely not going to be the first one down.

I’m a grown-up now and I write about this kind of stuff for a living so I’m thinking I may have to watch the movies. I also think, after just watching that 35 year old trailer, that I will have nightmares for a month. I hear that the first one is the most straight-up alien horror movie and that the others change a little and are actually better. I’ve even been told I could technically skip the first one.

That would definitely make me chicken, so I’m going to watch them all and am anticipating that I will be sleeping with the light on for the next month.

I’d love to hear what you all think of the movies. Scared the daylights out of you? Love them? Hate them? Share your thoughts!

Never seen….WT(.)!!!??? Have to say, I love them – except AvP and Prometheus, both if which I refuse to watch. Admittedly, the series petered off towards the end; but even so, all four maintain an individual charm.

  2. I like the first one the best. Monster in the dark. Believable space travel. Non military truck drivers hauling a refinery and ore back home. I also like the second film. Pure military action story. The rest are not good at all in my opinion.

I've never seen them either. So ashamed. 🙁

  4. The first one is a horror movie, the second one is an action movie. The third one is my personal favorite but not for reasons of quality, or um, any good reason probably. The second one, if you see it, see the director's cut. Well worth it.
